The Walled City in Ahmedabad
The Walled City in Ahmedabad has an interesting history and evolution. It is a structure that is made out of etched wood that surround affluent homes. The architectural structure was built in the 1800s in a neighborhood that was called the Pols. The Pols are enclosed communities that can only be accessed through a gate into the neighborhood. Inside the Pols are many winding streets, shrines, and open spaces. Some of the homes in the Pols were made out of the finest wood and bricks which give the homes its wealthy appearance. There are also pol homes that have had many floors added on to it, which have created a high rise look to the homes along with balconies. The affluent homes to do not have any colored paint to them.
Hathee Singh Temple
The Hathee Singh is a temple with over fifty shrines encased in arrant white stone marble, which was built in the 1800s in Delhi. Each temple holds the idol of a god named Jain Tirthankar.
Shaking Minarets
The Sidi Bashir is a Mosque that was built with minarets that vibrate the whole foundation when only one minaret is shaken. This gave the structure the name of Shaking Minarets. The Mosque is located near a gate called Sarangpur in Ahmedabad. The Mosque consists of two separate minaret columns that sit three levels high and contain ornate etched balconies. The cause of the vibrations have never been explained, especially since both minarets are many feet a part from each other, and the only vibrations are felt in the minaret columns and no where else. It is an enigma filled with mystery.
Bhadra Fort
The Bhadra Fort is a royal and stately temple that is used to hold many celebrations and holidays, such as Independence Day and Republic Day. The temple is also a place of worship for Bhadrakal, who is a female God to the Hindus. It was built in A.D. of 1411 by Sultan Ahmad Shah who has kept many slaves during his time. The slaves of Ahmad Shah have gone on to build many sacred temples in India. The Bhadra Fort is one of the most sought after tourist attractions for its charming gardens and magnificent palace. The structure is built with majestic arches and adorned balconies. The fort is also large enough to hold several offices of the Government and another tourist attraction called Teen Darwaza.
Lake Kankaria
Kankaria Lake is a circular shaped lake that was built in 1451 AD. It is a popular tourist spot where tourists enjoy the Nagina Wadi garden, aquarium, parks, museum, zoo, and boat social club. It is the largest body of water in the most populated part of the city in Ahmedabad. It is associated with a royal history of kings that used the lake as a permanent bathing place for purification. The pristine lake has a walkway that leads to the middle of the water and into the Nagina Wadi garden. The lake also has restaurants in the garden with beautiful lighting, and a campus and a fitness center, which is named Ambubhai Vyayamshala.
